Strategy Manager - Greenhouse Gas

This roleis critical to the group's future Greenhouse Gas Strategy in as far as it plays a key role in determining the future direction of the organization by monitoring and analyzing developments in the local and international GHG reduction arena.
This role is furthermore responsible for forecasting likely future developments and to understand their likely impact on the Group, formulating an integrated GHG strategy for the global organization. This role also forms part of the Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs approach in South Africa and globally to influence public policy and regulatory matters on GHG issues.
• Integrative analyses, Monitoring and understand of developments in the local and international GHG emissions reduction environment
• Select and interact with thought leaders and consultancies in the field of GHG to develop long term regional and specific country carbon price forecasts in order to guide the strategic investment agenda
• Analyse regional and country specific GHG reduction commitments and legislation, including measurement standards and issues such as measures to mitigate carbon leakage
• Assess the impact of such foreseen and probable developments on the Group
• Play a leading role in the development of risk mitigation strategies to manage these impacts in the medium term
• Play a leading role together with Group GM strategy & Planning in formulating an integrated long term GHG strategy.
• Communicate such impacts to key stakeholders within the Group and influence strategic direction accordingly
• Interact with key external stakeholders under the aegis of the PPRA to influence policy and sentiment
• Ensure coordination and alignment between Business Units strategies and Group GHG strategy
• Develop and manage a process to prepare a regular GHG emissions forecast for the Group
• Developing GHG reduction commitments for individual Business Units and for the Group as a whole
• Advise the Strategy Manager and PPRA Manager on developing sound interaction plans with regulatory authorities.

Who we're looking for
Knowledge and Skills:
• A good understanding of the broader international Group and its individual Business Units.
• A good understanding of macro-economics and its interaction with the energy/petrochemical markets and environmental policies.
• Understand the interaction and linkages between energy and petrochemicals and the impact that GHG developments will have on both.
• Ability to lead the construction of scenarios to assess the impact of potential developments in the environmental arena on the Group.
• An overall understanding of climate change and the GHG reduction environment on a local and international level.
