To ensure that the Group Business Units complies with all laws, regulations and supervisory requirements applicable to it, by providing an effective compliance risk management framework and compliance support.
Compliance operating framework
• Manage the implementation of a risk based approach to compliance, within the specific business unit, by following the
The group Compliance framework, which outlines the relevant Compliance methodology to be used.
• Establish and implement a consistent operating framework for the identification, management, monitoring and
reporting of Compliance risks and issues by making reference to the Compliance methodology.
• Responsible for ensuring that the operating framework is embedded consistently across The group to meet internal and
statutory requirements (for example, National Credit Act, Banks Act etc.).
• Regularly assess all findings in order to establish trends and escalate all issues of a significant nature to the
appropriate stakeholders on a timely basis (as and when these occur) and through the correct channels, for example,
through various meetings and reports (content presentation, accuracy and completeness are important)
• Develop a high performing Compliance function across the specific business unit and within the group, by making use of
updated technology
Stakeholder relations management
• Build and maintain meaningful relationships with internal relevant business unit and external (for example, South
African Reserve Bank etc) with the aim of understanding their business needs. This will entail having regular
meetings with the relevant executive members of the business.
• Implement established escalation processes for significant issues and concerns raised so as to manage the culture of
"no surprises". This will entail having proactive, regular, meaningful meetings with key stakeholders, as well as
ensuring that reports are discussed and submitted timeously to the relevant executive business head.
Policies and procedures
• Responsible for the review, challenge and roll-out of Group Compliance policies and standards by providing feedback
during Compliance plan forums.
• Where relevant, oversee the implementation and embedment of the money laundering control framework in country,
with specific reference to various policies, including but not limited to Sanctions, Customer Acceptance,
Who we're looking for
• Relevant legal degree
• Diploma in Compliance Management
• Minimum of 5 years related compliance experience - Good knowledge of
compliance requirements at a local level. Sound appreciation of the overall
regulatory agenda and objectives.
• Minimum 5 years of managing a professional compliance team.
• 5 years Auditing experience
